About Kristyn Lyerly
Kristyn Lyerly is originally from Poughkeepsie, New York where she began dancing at the age of two. Kristyn moved to Illinois in 1994 and continued to pursue dance. Throughout her dancing career, she has been trained in tap, jazz, ballet/pointe, lyrical and hip-hop. Kristyn has danced for Dance One Studio, The Center for Dance and Dance Dimensions under Kim Marie Peterson.
While attending Downers Grove North High School, Kristyn was a four-year member of the Athena Dance Team, as well as co-captain her junior year and captain her senior year. While being a member of the Athen Dance Team under Toni Royster, Kristyn has competed all over Illinois, winning numerous awards; elected to the National All Star Dance Team sophomore, junior and senior year; elected as an IDTA All Star junior and senior year; elected as a UDA All Star junior and senior year; and won two silver medals at the Junior Olympics for dance
After high school, Kristyn attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 3 1/2 years. While completing her undergraduate, Kristyn was a member of the Illinettes Dance Team her freshman year. Kristyn became a member, board member, treasurer and choreographer for the University of Illinois Three Spot Dance Troupe her sophomore, junior and senior year. After graduation, Kristyn continued her education at North Central College where whe completed her Type 09 Teaching Certification for Secondary Education in Social Studies. She also served as a member of the Cardettes Dance Team. Kristyn graduated with top honors.
Kristyn has been a dance teacher/choreographer for studios, park districts, competitive companies, musical theater productions and high school and collegiate dance teams. Kristyn has a strong passion for dance and a sincere love for teaching. She brings positivity and enthusiasm to every class, and strives to help every dancer reach his/her potential.
Kristyn is happily married to Jon Lyerly and resides in Downers Grove.
